Barring metals, all sectoral indices slipped, led by declines in defence and PSU bank shares. InterGlobe Aviation, Asian Paints, BEL and Hindustan Unilever were among the tip Nifty laggards, falling between 3% and 10%. On the gaining aspect, Hindalco, Grasim, Tata Steel and Eternal topped the Nifty listing. Within the broader market, Bharat Dynamics, Coforge, Mazagon Dock and M&M Monetary Products and services were the first midcap losers, whereas Hindustan Zinc, Vodafone Thought, Bandhan Bank and SRF led the midcap gainers.
The market extended its positive components for a 2nd straight day, with the Nifty closing above 26,200. The midcap index outperformed and market breadth favoured advances. Aside from FMCG, all sectoral indices ended higher, with steel and realty shares main the rally. Thirty-eight Nifty shares closed within the golf green, with Hindalco, Tata Steel and Adani Power topping the gainers’ listing. Hindustan Zinc, Vodafone Thought, Bandhan Bank and SRF were the tip midcap performers, rising 2–7%.
