Factbox-Taiwan Contract Chipmaker TSMC’s US Investments

Jan 16 (Reuters) – The U.S. and Taiwan reached ‌a ​alternate deal on Thursday below which ‌Taiwanese companies will invest $250 billion to lift manufacturing of semiconductors, energy and synthetic ​intelligence in the US.

The settlement involves $100 billion already dedicated by semiconductor huge TSMC in 2025, with extra to ‍plot, in step with U.S. Commerce Secretary ​Howard Lutnick.

TSMC, the sphere’s biggest contract chipmaker, hinted at plans to make extra manufacturing means in the ​U.S. at some stage in its ⁠January 15 earnings call, but did no longer give an explanation for on any further funding beyond the $165 billion it has already dedicated.
